Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Diversity is the presence and representation of a population in regard to aspects like race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, language, age, socio-economic status, tribe, caste, ethnicity, religious and or political beliefs and perspectives.

Equity seeks to promote fairness when it comes to treatment as well as within processes and procedures, impartiality, equality on available opportunities as well as equal distribution of available resources within an ecosystem. The presence and enforcement of equity help to ensure equal possible outcomes for every individual.

Inclusion is the practice of ensuring that those people who are diverse within the workplace feel valued and like they belong. Every employee within an organization should feel supported and welcome as they express their true self.

Why Is Diversity Important?

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

When it comes to decision-making within companies and organizations, different opinions and perspectives are usually taken into consideration before making the final decision. This applies to decisions affecting the human resource within an organization or when it comes to business or product development.

Therefore, the more diverse the people in an organization are, the more perspective there is when it comes to decision making. Usually, people from different backgrounds, races, walks of life have varying life experiences and as a result, different perspectives altogether. This therefore helps for better outcomes.

Why Is Equity Important?

Equity is about promoting fairness and impartiality within the workplace. Wherever people go to put in their time and resources, they want to rest assured that they are being treated equally as well as being compensated fairly in comparison with their counterparts who are within that field/ organization/job group. When looking for employment, a lot of people actually put these aspects into consideration.

Why Is Inclusion Important?

Inclusion calls for every individual in the workplace being and expressing themselves in the most authentic way possible. Inclusion calls for a balance in the workforce in terms of race, age, gender, etc. The bottom line is, people simply want to genuinely feel like they belong and not that they have been included in a culture or dynamic just as a token person to represent a minority group of a certain demographic of people.
